Mechanical Estimator - Design+Build Contractor - NYC

Your new company

I am partnered with a full-service construction management firm established in 2000 who are headquartered in New York City with four regional offices today, including California, New Jersey, Florida and Texas. They are known as an industry leader specifically within the media sector, including broadcast and production facilities, and sound stage campuses, having completed multiple projects with the likes of NBC, Univision and Netflix and Disney to name a few.

They have over 200+ employees nationally across 7 business units and are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented construction Estimator to join their Construction Management division in New York City or New Jersey. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 1–2 years of experience in construction estimating to further develop their skills in a fast-paced environment.

Your new role

As a Junior Construction Estimator, you will assist in the preparation of cost estimates for various design-build and construction management projects, working closely with senior estimators, project managers, and the design team.

Your responsibilities will include and support the following:

  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and detailed construction cost estimates for a variety of projects, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments across all trades.
  • Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other project documentation to determine the scope of work
  • Quantify material, labor, and equipment requirements
  • Collaborate with senior estimators and project managers to analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Value engineering options and cost-saving measures Perform quantity take-offs using estimating software - Procore
  • Assist in preparing bid proposals, RFIs, and change orders
  • Stay updated on current market prices, material costs, and industry trends
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, proposals, and project documentation
  • Participate in project site visits /walk-throughs to understand site conditions and potential challenges

What you'll need to succeed

  • Ideally, 1 year of experience in construction estimating, preferably in a design-build or construction management environment; willing to train
  • Familiarity with construction documents, plans, and specifications preferred
  • Proficiency in estimating software (such as ProCore, Bluebeam, or similar) preferred and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the New York City construction market is a plus.
