Director of Construction required for award-winning General Contractor

My client is a dynamic commercial design-build General Contractor. They are seeking a Director of Construction to lead project delivery across their expanding portfolio. Their projects span across the Western United States, and they pride themselves on delivering high-quality, innovative solutions that meet their clients' unique needs.

In this role, the Director will oversee a team of project managers and direct the field team, including superintendents and foremen, to ensure high standards for quality, safety, and client satisfaction. Project sizes vary from $100k-$2m – client base includes Amazon and FedEx. The Director will collaborate closely with other departments, such as estimating, operations, and purchasing, to align resources and optimize project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of project managers and the field team, including superintendents and foremen, to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to their internal and clients’ standards.
  • Project Oversight: Manage all aspects of multiple construction projects, coordinating project phases from initiation to close-out and ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and budgets.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with estimating, operations, and purchasing teams to align resources, manage costs, and streamline processes for optimal project execution.
  • Contribute to expanding the business's network of preferred subcontractors and validating their competencies and qualifications.
  • Financial and Budget Management: Accountable to ensure the financial performance of projects, manage projects to their budgets, and track project expenses, including subcontractor and vendor expenses.
  • Scheduling and Resource Management: Develop and monitor project schedules, coordinate resource allocation, and ensure timely procurement of materials.
  • Contract Administration Support: Collaborate with the contract administration team by providing insights and consultation during estimating, negotiations and change order processes.
  • Safety and Compliance: Lead the company’s safety standards and execution by enforcing internal safety programs and procedures + OSHA standards on job sites; proactively identify and promptly address potential risks on job sites.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular site visits to assess project progress, safety, and quality standards; ensure compliance with specifications and quality benchmarks.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field, with 5+ years of experience in commercial construction project management, including field and leadership experience.
