Our client is seeking a Azure Systems Administrator in Durham, NC/Hybrid.

Role Description

The Azure System Administrator will own and be responsible for configuring, monitoring, and optimizing all Azure services to ensure high availability, security, and performance. This role requires expertise in cloud computing, networking, and automation to support the company's cloud strategy.

• Deploy, configure, and manage Microsoft Azure environments, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and security.
• Monitor system performance and ensure high availability of Azure-based applications.
• Implement security best practices, including role-based access control (RBAC), firewalls, and compliance policies.
• Maintain Azure Active Directory (AAD) and hybrid identity solutions.
• Automate tasks using PowerShell, ARM templates, Azure CLI, or Terraform/Bicep.
• Manage backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans.
• Troubleshoot system and network issues, providing timely resolutions.
• Optimize Azure costs by monitoring usage and rightsizing resources.
• Support CI/CD activities and current deployment processes
• Stay up-to-date with Azure updates, trends, and best practices.

Skills & Requirements

• Expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud platform
• Experience with hybrid cloud environments and on-premises-to-cloud migrations.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
• Proficiency in PowerShell, Azure CLI, or other scripting languages for automation.
• Knowledge of networking (VPCs, subnets, load balancers, private endpoints)
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform, Vault, GitHub, Bicep)
• Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• College degree in CIS, Computer Science, a related field, or relevant training and experience
• 5+ years of experience as an Azure System Administrator
• 5+ years building infrastructure and troubleshooting issues
• Azure Certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-303, AZ-305, AZ-500) preferred.
• Security training/certification a plus (CompTIA Security+ or equivalent)
• Virtual Networks and Private Endpoints
• Azure service bus
• Azure App Service Environment (ASE) and App Service Plans (ASP)
• Logic Apps
• Knowledge of MDM software and hardware configurations
• Knowledge of Enterprise Service Bus architectures
• Deep Azure Admin & Architect expertise - this will be the only Azure person on the team
• Scripting - any language is fine
• Security - must know how to securely set up global access on Azure
• Cost Optimization - what have you done to improve costs and be more efficient in an Azure environment?
• Azure SQL Scripting; big company background that allowed candidate to gain deep knowledge of Azure Cloud
