CONSTRUCTION WORKERS STILL IN DEMAND
The UK’s leading recruitment consultancy, Hays Construction, has opened a new office on Clifftown Road in Southend-on-Sea so that it can better meet the needs of local people. It has opened locally in response to a strong demand for construction workers in the area, due to the large number of projects underway.
Building maintenance positions are high on the list, with current vacancies for tradesmen and labourers to work on local projects. The area is due to face massive redevelopment following the Thames Gateway Project - the largest project of its kind in Western Europe. Construction activity will continue to grow over the coming months and years, including the extensive redevelopment of Basildon town centre worth over £900 million and the construction of a new stadium for Southend United football club. In conjunction with this, a number of properties are currently being refurbished as part of a multi million pound government scheme to improve the standards of all council houses by 2010.
Andrew Fowler, Senior Manager at Hays Construction comments: “Our new office will allow us to better meet the recruitment needs of local employers and employees. There is a lot of talk at the moment of construction being a ‘doom and gloom’ industry, but the large number of projects taking place in and around Southend-on-Sea means this definitely isn’t the case. We are currently holding weekly open days to promote the many opportunities for construction workers in the area and our specialist consultants will be on hand to offer expert career advice and answer any questions about the local market.’’
